A Hike Amongst The Redwoods!

Amongst all the medical chaos that is going on in our lives right now, we took a moment out to go for a hike in our back yard...Big Basin Redwoods State Park. With the crisp fall weather settling into the Valley, it was a perfect morning for a hike and we had a lot of fun.

Jason picked out our trail, a hike to Sempervirens Falls. We thought it was gonna be a 4 hour hike round trip, but it turned out to be a 2 hour hike round trip! It was a good thing though, Noah was falling apart just as we reached "the falls." We stopped for a snack and water just 30 minutes in because Noah was getting restless, and just 20 minutes after we got back on the trail, I was carrying a sleepy baby in my arms! I don't think we would have survived a 4 hour hike!

Right when we were considering heading back to the car, we saw the sign for "the falls." Your probably wondering why I keep putting quotes around "the falls." Well, when you start off on a hike with the expectation of some magnificent waterfall, and end up on a small platform overlooking a pond with a trickle of water dripping into it, "the falls" are what you get! Ha Ha! Not that it wasn't beautiful or a nice place to land, but I was expecting a frickin' waterfall!!

We took some pictures and had a good laugh and headed back to the car. Just 10 minutes into our hike back Noah passed out in the backpack, which didnt look too comfortable, but he didn't seem to mind. That is until I tried to "help!" I tried to adjust his little head, which resulted in him waking up in tears and totally pissed! Way to go Mom!!

sleepin in the pack....

tell me this looks like a comfortable way to sleep!?

umm, NO!

We took Noah out of the pack and let him run around. There was so much to see and touch and taste (eeeewww) and step on! It took 10 minutes to walk 8 feet! But hey, it's about the journey not the destination, right?!!! On the way back we stopped at the huge redwoods that you could walk in and Noah had fun picking up acorns, smackin the trees and trying to walk on the rough/uneven ground.

(Noah was trying to feed Jason an acorn & thought it was soooo funny!)

When we made it back to the car, we wondered over to the picnic area, (aka - tables plopped on a porch in front of the gift shop), had some lunch and let Noah run around. He chased birds, waved at every single person that walked by, and no trip would be complete with out a good crash and burn! But nothing that a Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Cone couldn't fix!

this poor bird became known as, "baaaaaaaabooooooooo" and was chased and yelled at by Noah for a good 5 minutes! Sorry Nature, don't hate us!

We ended our trip with a walk through the funky old museum and a quick car ride home! It's such a treat to have such a beautiful space just in our back yard!

Cute! I love the photos of Noah cracking up with the acorn. And the one where he is on the ground in the pack. Maybe we can come along next time!=)

OMG the sleeping pictures are freaking hilarious. I guess that's why there's some what of a pillow in the front. That's awesome that your guys had a great time and what a cool idea to explore our own backyard.I've never been up there, you made it look pretty tempting and I'm sure that "fall" is much more appealing after the rains.
